The Philippine government is preparing for the impact of thousands of temporary workers who will be affected by Canada’s four-year rule.
At least 50,000 temporary workers are expected to return to the Philippines, as Canada disallows these foreign workers to further work in their country once they have reached four years. Furthermore, they cannot re-apply for work until another four years. The repatriation will begin this April.
The government is now creating programs to these newly unemployed temporary workers. The Philippine Embassy in Canada is currently coordinating with the Department of Labor and Employment, as well as the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, for the reintegration programs, entrepreneurship seminars, and the provision of family assistance.
