The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) issued a warning to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) about a loan scam circulating “throughout the OFW community” which asks OFWs to pay HKD $1,000 (PhP6,000) in exchange for an OWWA loan.
OWWA says that they had not sent those messages. They also reported that the office has been receiving calls from OFWs about the supposed loan and its requirements.
OWWA has traced the scam to a Facebook account named “OWWA Loan,” which illegally uses the agency logo as its profile picture. They have already reported the fake account.
The organization has warned all OFWs to be watchful of the scams. They also advised everyone to transact only with OWWA offices and that the public should report any suspicious information or transactions.
