Malaysia – Twenty seven Filipinas working as guest relations officer were arrested due to invalid working permits.
According to Adzhar Othman of Labuan Police district, the women were detained through the Immigration Regulations 1963 Section 39(b). The manager of the premises where the women was rescued is also under investigation for hiring guest relations officers that don’t have appropriate working permit.
Throughout the process of investigation, it was found out the 7 of the detained workers were victims of rampant human trafficking. The 7 women confessed that they were deceived into working in the said premises without proper consent.
The case is under the Anti-Trafficking Law of 2007. The raid was done due to the information given to the local authorities about the entertainment premises. The illegal activity has been going on for a while now despite the constant warning on the manager and even to the owner of the premises.
There are certain laws and regulations when hiring workers from other countries. The government of Malaysia is conducting stern actions for violators.
Human trafficking is becoming totally rampant in many countries worldwide. Because of the increasing need to provide financially for the family, foreign workers are starting to grow more every year.
