In a recent Facebook post, Angelique Ruby, another dismayed OFW, complained about her ‘balikbayan’ box which was allegedly stacked with Styrofoam instead of imported goods and other items.
On October, Angelique Ruby poured out her disappointments with either the forwarding service she hired or the customs in the Philippines. She is not sure when the opening happened, either on the side of the forwarding service or the Bureau of Customs which is in hot seat for months already. But according to some commenters on her post, the forwarding service has a good reputation when it comes to taking good care of the boxes sent through them. Many of these commenters are convinced that the lapses are on the Bureau of Customs.
According to Ruby’s Facebook post, the issue is not just the missing items or the-already-opened balikbayan box, but also the missing items and those which are damaged. According to her, she worked so hard to gather all these items, these should be treated carefully.
She sarcastically thanked the people behind this terrible incident. Though it’s very painful to see the damaged items, she has no plan of filing any complains because she thinks that there will be no justice when it comes to these things. This thinking might have resulted from the numerous issues concerning ‘balikbayan boxes’. She added that this issue should warn her fellow OFW’s to be very careful with their hard-earned ‘balikbayan boxes’. Despite what had happened, she hopes that there will be no more cases of torn boxes just to steal something from it. She also needs the help of netizens to spread this news so the designated authorities can investigate the issue thoroughly.
