At first, the Philippine National Police – Aviation Security Group was confident at first that their case against Gloria Ortinez for illegal possession of ammunition.
But because there were discrepancies between the photo of the bullet and the presented evidence, Ortinez was released without bail while the case is being investigated.
Because of this, two police in the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) named PO3 Careen de Padua and PO1 Rommel Ballesteros were moved from their position.
PNP-AVSEC Chief C/Supt. Pablo Francisco Balagtas said they are investigating the incident. He clarified, however, that it was NAIA’s security staff who are in charge of baggage screening.
According to a source, the three security screening officers were asked to appear in the investigation.
S/Supt. Ricardo Layug, chief of the PNP-AVSEC in NCR said they will assume regularity in the performance of duty.
Because of this, Ortinez’s party’s suspicions were heightened that the security officers placed the bullet in her bag. The party also found it suspicious that her boarding pass had disappeared, one of the items from her connecting flight that was confiscated from her when she was arrested.
Aside from civil damages, Ortinez’s party is planning to also charge moral damages.
The PNP-AVSEC Group also released the CCTV footage when Ortinez underwent X-ray screening, but Ortinez was too far from the footage that it was hard to tell what happened. Another footage was dim.
