Eleonora Masigla is emotional when she was interviewed by news station TV5.
Her child, Sherly Chua, is detained in Hong Kong due to drug trafficking.
Masigla says she’ll never believe the allegations as her child is well-brought-up, and she knows Chua would never resort to such acts.
Chua was arrested in September, along with Dr. Ana Loella, Maricel Thomas, and Remelyn Roque.
According to reports, the four women were stopped in the Hong Kong Airport. In their baggage was found 2.5kg of cocaine valued at USD 3 million.
Masigla, however, insisted that Chua would never commit such a crime. Despite separated from her husband, Chua manages to provide for her two children from her job as a real estate and financing agent.
She only knows that Chua’s friend, Roque, promised an all-expense flight in Hong Kong after the former helped the latter make a bank loan.
Roque’s husband, Resty, meanwhile, had no idea why his wife went to Hong Kong. With Roque detained, he now has to take care of their children while running their rice stall in the market.
Resty, however, admitted that his wife has been having financial difficulties.
Chua and Roque maintained in their statements that they did nothing wrong. They appealed for help in their home country.
They said they were victimized by a group who offered them a free tour and P35,000 upon their return to the Philippines. They were recruited to go to Hong Kong and asked to carry their luggage.
Loella and Thomas also said that Roque dragged them along the offer.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), however, claimed that the four women had been going back and forth from the Philippines to Hong Kong numerous times.
In a separate operation, a Ugandan national and his companion were arrested. These two were believed to have recruited the four Filipinas. They were also caught with 10kg of cocaine.
According to PDEA, the Ugandan national operates a syndicate of drug mules.
