Another overseas Filipino worker (OFW) has been the latest victim of the long-running “tanim bala” scam in the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
According to the 35-year-old Olivia De Guzman, she, her husband, and her 13-year-old child are headed to Saudi Arabia, a connecting flight to Italy when a bullet was discovered in her luggage.
In an initial investigation, a caliber .22 bullet was found in the luggage. In a video shown by airport security, the baggage was tightly sealed and was opened by De Guzman’s husband. The items inside were taken out one by one until the bullet was found at the bottom.
De Guzman told radio dzMM that she personally packed the box and denied putting the bullet inside. The OFW does not use bullets as amulets either.
After investigating the incident, authorities chose not to file charges against her and her husband.
They are scheduled to take the next available flight to Italy.
