John Ruiz-Imasa is five years old. His mother calls him Lucky due to the miraculous nature of his birth.
Lucky was born with a rare skin disease called epidermolysis bullosa, which leaves him with blisters and open wounds all over his body. Due to his sensitive condition, he is easily in pain, which is why his mother Aira takes extra care of him.
The blisters have caused Lucky’s fingers and toes to stick together. He also can’t open his mouth properly, making it hard for him to eat. He can’t walk properly either, and he’s sensitive to heat.
Aira took his son to the Skin Center of East Avenue Medical Center to have a specialist examine Lucky. Dr. Maria Angela Lavadia from the Department of Dermatology, the skin needs to be taken care of to avoid infections. She also recommended that Lucky be examined every two months.
Lucky was given a lifespan of 20 to 30 years, so Aira is doing her best to give her son whatever he needs.
Despite the pain, Lucky remains cheerful. He wants to be a pilot when he grows up.
Due to regular bleeding, Lucky is in need of regular blood transfusion. He also needs rehabilitation so he can move his arms and legs. Donations can be made by contacting ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya through 415-2272 local 5409.
