A Filipina in New Zealand has been accused of operating a visa scam.
New Zealand news Web site NZCity reported that a certain Loraine Anne Cander Jayme is facing 284 dishonesty-related charges, which include several counts of forgery, using forged documents, and providing false information.
The Hamilton High Court ruled to have Jayme’s name published in spite of her lawyer’s appeal. The lawyer appealed to not have her name published due to death threats and the impact it may have on her seven-year-old son.
However, the judge pointed out that publishing Jayme’s name may, in fact, reduce the threat to her safety because it would update the complainants that the matter is before the courts.
Authorities arrested Jayme in October after Immigration New Zealand discovered a thousand Filipino dairy workers were victimized by the scam.
Reports said Jayme has been imprisoned on bail without plea and scheduled to reappear in the Hamilton District Court on March 16.
