The Canadian government has recently made changes to the Citizenship Act, which include greater flexibility for people trying to meet citizenship requirements.
The changes will also help immigrants change citizenships faster.
One of the proposed changes will allow non-permanent residents time to count towards the new three-year-presence requirement for citizenship. The three-year-presence requirement includes the time a temporary resident came to the country.
The Canadian government also plans to change the age range of applicant who must meet language and knowledge requirements. This will allow those under 18 and older than 54 to be exempted.
Filipinos in Canada, especially those with a temporary working visa, are anticipating the proposed changes. They feel the new policies are now inclusive, and they feel that their rights as immigrants are protected.
The changes will take effect once the Citizenship Act becomes an actual law.
