A four-year-old Filipino child has been temporarily placed under the care of a foster family in Dubai after her mother was hospitalized and is currently on life support.
The Kahleei Times reported that the child has no other relatives in the United Arab Emirates. Her father was deported last year for overstaying.
Philippine Deputy Consul General Giovanni Palec said they are working on her immediate repatriation to the Philippines. They are just waiting for the special power of attorney and a copy of the marriage certificate from the father so they can start the repatriation process. The consulate will share the fare home.
The child’s 46-year-old mother works illegally as a domestic helper and had suffered intracranial hemorrhage, a life-threatening emergency caused by bleeding inside the skull. She has been comatose for almost three weeks at a private hospital in Dubai. Her bill has reached over Dh300,000 (PhP377,000).
Palec said Philippine officials are already assessing the kind of assistance to be extended to her and her family.
