More number of senior citizens will get benefited by a program granted by the government which is due to the higher allocated funds compared to the previous years.
According to Ralph Recto, Senate President Pro Tempore, the funds for senior citizens are much higher this year so as to extend the help to more individuals. The current P5.96 billion fund allocation will be raised to P7.51 billion by next year. They are aiming to extend help to all indigent seniors with the age of 60 and up. An estimate of 250 senior citizens are to get benefited by the said proposal.
Currently, every declared senior citizen is entitled for a P6000 pension every month. This can be claimed as long as the senior citizen have processed necessary things in the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
According to Recto, the said proposal is to cover those indigent senior citizens who are 60 years old & above and with diseases, disabilities, jobless and those individuals who are experiencing extremely hardships in life.
