Filipinos work abroad to provide the financial needs of their families back in the Philippines. But sad to say, there’s still a lot to spend before they can actually produce an amount to be sent for their families back home. Personal luxuries and comfort are given up just to minimize their spending.
One of the most common problem of OFWs abroad is their accommodation. You will mostly see them dwelling in crowded apartments just to save from those high paying apartments. The problem with these shared apartments and flats is that, they are too noisy and you have to deal with the attitude of your roommates. Technically, you will need to face these things when living in a shared apartment.
- Food
As one of the basic needs, food is also the source of trouble inside a shared room. Of course, when you prepare food, you will also have to share it with your roommate or they will just eat it without your permission. That’s pretty troublesome and mostly the cause of arguments.
- Hygiene
If you’re some who’s very meticulous about cleanliness, then this habit might get sabotage when in a shared room. You will have to properly deal with a roommate that won’t do laundry regularly, takes a bath or even brushes their teeth. It is very disgusting to have a roommate like this but you need to deal with it calmly to avoid confrontation.
- Missing belongings
You worked so hard to achieve what you currently have right now. So, every valuable you have is the fruit of your labor. But with shared room, secure your things properly so you won’t lose it unwillingly.
- Toilet problems
Since you share a room, expect to share the same toilet as well. Worst, if your roommate spends more time than usual when using the toilet, it will certainly kill your patience. It is much better to approach the person properly to avoid getting an enemy.
- Snoring Roommate
You get to your bed, feeling totally exhausted from working whole day but you ended up pissed off because your roommate snores really loud. You can face the other side of the bed and deal with the sound until you fall asleep.
- Trash
Whether you like it or not, there are people who like collecting things from the neighbourhood. Since you have a shared room and the space is limited, this habit of your roommate is pretty much annoying.
These things should serve as a guideline to those OFWs planning to have a roommate to save money for accommodation. You will need a lot of patience and humility to achieve peace and order in your room.
