Leah is one of many nurses who allegedly got victimized by a Pinay illegal recruiter in Kuwait. They were promised a job in Kuwait Ministry of Health through a visit visa. According to Leah, she paid KD450 (P69,786) for her plane ticket yet she didn’t receive any.
Mia Buenavides is the alleged illegal recruiter who asks a minimum amount of KD5,500 or approximately P858,000 for the placement fee but is allowed to give a minimum amount of P80,000 which will serve as a down payment. They were promised a monthly salary of KD750 or P117,000 with free housing and transportation which are all tax free.
Even other Pinoy nurses in Kuwait were victimized by the alleged illegal recruiter. Most of them gave a down payment of KD2,200 or P351,000.
Leah and other victims of Buenavides already filed a dispute in the Philippine Overseas Employment Authority. They were already investigating the case and requested the appearance of Buenavides but she refused to respond.
Gerry Drioso, the Corner Stone Internation Logistics Company consultant, was sent instead of Buenavides. According to him, he sees no anomalies with what Buenavides did. It is said that the company is licensed in Kuwait but do not have the authorization from the Ministry of Health to recruit nurses from the Philippines.
The only appeal of all the victims is for their money to be returned to them, as well as their important documents.
POEA also posted a reminder to all not to work under Tourist or Visit Visa to avoid further complications.
