Hong Kong – a special administrative region of China offers multiple benefits to its Filipino Overseas workers. Since it is just hours away from Manila (when travelled by air), it creates no time difference which is very beneficial to Filipino workers for easier communication to their family members in the Philippines.
In addition to that, Hong Kong is not a very huge place, making it easier for the consular officials to extend the much needed help. Through the help of the Philippine Consulate in Hong Kong, complaints and violations are easier addressed.
Another advantage offered to Hong Kong domestic helpers is that they are being paid much higher compared to other countries. They can also save more with food and accommodation if they choose stay-in with their employers. If not, they are also offered a living allowance to cover their food and boarding expense.
But because of these many advantages, the rise of disadvantage took place. The territorial area of Hong Kong is becoming very crowded each year.
The growing number of inhabitants resulted to shutting of streets during Sundays and holidays so foreign nationals, mostly domestic helpers, can roam around the area. But this solution is not for long term, during hot or rainy season, the situation actually gets worst.
Although not everyone spends their break on streets (some goes to church or just at home), the shortage of space still offers huge problem.
