An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who has been confined in a hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, for half a year now is in need of help.
Romeo Mendoza was rushed to a private hospital in January by his employer after suffering a stroke. But his employer purportedly left him after the hospital bills surpassed his insurance coverage.
Mendoza’s nurse, a Filipina, said his employer has stopped coordinating with the hospital’s administration in April. She said they have tried to reach the employer in his given contact information, but to no avail.
According to Atoy Esguerra, coordinator of pro-OFW group Kaagapay ng Bawat OFW, the patient needs an exit visa in order for him to go home to the Philippines. Only Mendoza’s employer could offer the visa as he is a legitimate OFW.
Esguerra, who is helping Mendoza, is appealing to the Philippine Consulate to bring the issue to the Governor’s Office in Jeddah since Mendoza’s employer has stopped coordinating with them.
Welfare officer Rosemarie Cleofe, meanwhile, said they are doing what they can to contact Mendoza’s employer.
