Three Filipino housemaids and a man have been jailed for six months after being found guilty of stealing DHS2.5 million (PHP99,356) from a house where the two maids were working.
Abu Dhabi Criminal Court bequeathed the sentences to the Filipino nationals after official documents revealed that the crime was discovered in November last year.
Prosecutors said the theft took place while the family was out of the country for three weeks. One of the maids planned to steal the money with the help of two of her fellow maids in the same house. A fourth defendant, a Filipino man, was also involved in the theft.
When the family returned to Abu Dhabi, they found that the money was missing and informed Al Khalidiya Police Station about the incident. Investigation by the police resulted to arrests, and the maids eventually admitted to stealing the money.
The court has ordered the maids to return the stolen money. They and the Filipino will be deported after serving their jail time.
