Alma is happy with her business because this has become her only hope. But her life is not like this way back 2014, she worked as a domestic helper in Saudi Arabia.
According to Alma Quebec, she was sold to another employer which is a police office. Her nightmare started when the employer started to physically abuse her.
Luckily, her fellow Filipinos in Saudi helped her to escape and went home penniless. Through the help of the government, she was able to receive a TESDA scholarship and a starter kit to start off a business related to the course she finished in TESDA.
She now finds it impossible to work again as an OFW because she is gradually earning from the business she established and she is with her family most of the time.
Opening a business is open to all OFWs and not just the ones who got repatriated. This is all thanks to the agreement which was signed by OWWA and DTI. This memorandum of understanding states that enhance entrepreneurial development training will be given to OFWs. They will also get exposed to different programs. After the completion of the whole training, OFWs can now avail for a loan which is worth P100,000 – 2 Million Pesos as capital.
Even OFWs who are still staying abroad can start this kind of program. Their family members only needs to coordinate with the assigned departments.
