Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Officer in Jeddah, Angel Cruz, left his job after receiving alleged false accusations from Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III. He was accused of money extortion and pimping OFWs in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
According to reports, Cruz was hurt because of the accusations of Secretary Bello. According to him, he was shocked to hear the accusations of the head of the Department of Labor and Employment. He added that the comments are morally damaging towards himself and his entire family.
Cruz is working as a disbursing officer and he was accused of money extortion for those stranded OFWs in Saudi Arabia. It is said that he is manipulating the financial assistance of thousands of OFWs, all allegations are based on the number of complaints received by Bello.
Cruz denied all allegations stating that Bello didn’t conduct further investigation before announcing it to the media.
According to Cruz, he is not the only one who experienced this alleged false accusations and points to the fact that Bello is only trying to earn the sympathy of the public.
The thing that’s puzzling Cruz is the reason why he was not confronted by Bello when they met at SOGEX. The husband of Cruz is also affected by the said issue.
OFWs were asked whether the accusations were true but they denied that money extortion is happening. As with the Philippine Consulate, they haven’t received any complaints involving Angel Cruz.
