One of France’s largest publications has called President Rodrigo Duterte as a “serial killer” in one of its headline stories.
Libération is a daily newspaper in France. Its Manila correspondent Arnaud Vaulerin, wrote a four-page article on Duterte with the headlines “Le president serial killer”, translated to English as “The serial killer president.” The article detailed how Davao City became a “war zone” when Duterte was its mayor; it also mentioned the Davao Death Squad.
Vaulerin also wrote about how Duterte rose to popularity that eventually led him to presidency, as well as mass support for his war against drugs. He also mentioned how Duterte cursed Pope Francis, Obama, and his “Hitler” comment.
Filipinos in France reacted negatively against the “serial killer” headline. Some chose to air their sentiments to the publication, while others took their sentiments on Vaulerin’s Facebook page.
Interior Secretary Mike Sueno said calling Duterte as a “serial killer” was “too much.” Malacañang denounced the article as “irresponsible journalism.”
