As the government tightens its relationship with Russia, it is eyeing the possibility of Russia becoming the newest working destination for Filipinos especially now that there’s a decrease with job opportunities offered in Middle East countries.
According to Department of Labor Secretary, Silvestre Bello III, President Duterte will discuss the said issue to President Vladimir Putin of Russia on his visit to the country next year.
Sec. Bello requested the issue of sending Filipino skilled workers to Russia especially because of the high demands of construction workers and service workers in Russia.
Because of the lowering price of oil in Middle East, job opportunities for Filipinos were greatly affected but Russia is seen as a very good alternative.
Currently, there are 4,000 OFWs in Russia working in hotel industry, construction and household sectors.
