Socialization. It is not banned but there are still grounds in socializing. For example, there are number of events that women are separated from men. This is to avoid the committed people to be attracted with someone else. When the religious police see you talking in public when you are not related charges such as adultery to prostitution may be filed. Another example, in Mcdonald’s there are separate lines to avoid men and women getting so close.
Movie Theatres. It is banned from Saudi Arabia. Religious leaders believed that theatres are breeding grounds for immoral acts between men and women.
Photography. There are also grounds when taking pictures in Saudi Arabia. You should steer clear taking pictures of their government buildings, royal places or anything to do with military, inside a school. The ministries of education, banned all forms of photography and video. Also, locals hate being photographed.
Chess. Many are into this game for they are challenged to think deeply. Playing this in Saudi Arabia is prohibited. It is believed that chess is a game that can cause people to take bets or gamble which is not allowed in the Quran. Also, this can cause hatred towards the players.
Valentines Day. February 14, lovers go on dates and give each other gifts. But celebrating Valentines is not allowed in Saudi Arabia. According to the Committee for the promotion of virtue and the prevention of vice, if you own or sell any heart shaped or red, you’re breaking the law. Valentines Day is un-Islamic and celebrating it can lead people ‘astray’.
Other Religions. Saudi Arabia is 100% Islamic hence where it started. There is no room for other religions. For instance, you can’t find any Catholic Church in the country. You can still visit and work in Saudi Arabia even if you’re not a Muslim. But don’t flaunt any religious symbols that you aren’t Islamic if you don’t want to be in the hand of the authorities.
