The U.S State Department confirmed that Philippines does not belong to the so-called “countries of concern”. Filipinos living in US and those planning to go there are still allowed entrance to the country.
In a press conference, U.S State Department Deputy Spokesperson Mark Toner confirmed that the Philippines is indeed not labeled as “country of concern” and Filipinos are still very much welcome in United States.
US Embassy in Manila led by Molly Koscina, Philippines also confirmed this news. Previously, President Duterte already said that undocumented Filipinos in U.S should just go back to the country because he won’t help them if they got caught.
Amidst the issue regarding the Immigration policy, the Philippine President said that he won’t appoint an ambassador to America. Currently, Philippine Embassy in Kuwait is managed by Charge D’ Affaires Patrick A. Chuasoto.
According to previous DFA Secretary Albert Del Rosario, placing an Ambassador to America should be given a second thought by the President so as not to affect the relationship of both countries. However, DFA Undersecretary and permanent representative to the United Nations Lauro Baja believes that the President won’t leave this important position vacant for a long time because it will surely affect the relationship of the two countries.
Baja added that there are a lot of good candidates from the Department of Foreign Affairs which can perfectly fit the said position.
