How it works?
Fraudsters of African Scam, also known as love scam, were from countries like Nigeria, Uganda, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Zimbabwe and Sierra Leone. These fraudsters use fake good-looking images in social media sites, specifically Facebook. They look for possible prey and win their trust as they send jewelries, parcels, watches and even cash.
One victim who’s in her 40’s was befriended by alleged American. The suspect told the woman about the gifts that he will send to her. Since then, the victim kept on receiving calls allegedly from a courier company or Customs officer. They are both asking for money for the transportation of her parcel so the woman gave RM4, 000. The gifts were never received.
It was too late when she realized that she was scammed. She filed a report for that. Police authorities formed a team to track these scammers, leading to the arrest of 10 people.via Inquirer
