Starting August, the expiration date of driver’s license will be lengthen to 5 years.
According to Land Transportation Office chief Ed Galvante, driver with 5-year driver’s license expiration date were starting to line-up for the renewal of their license but the process was delayed due to the lack of plastic card supply.
Gavante also supports the establishment of Drivers’ Academy by the Land Transportation, Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
In Driver’s Academy, drivers of public utility vehicles need to attend one to two days of classes concerning several traffic rules and regulations, policies of LTFRB and even certain ways to avoid road rage.
Drivers of Uber and Grab are also required to undergo necessary trainings, according to Abs-Cbn News.
According to LTFRB board member Aileen Lizada, applicants need to pass the exam before they can get their ID cards.
The list of passers will be available in a database, so operators can easily check the status of their drivers.
LTFRB has strengthen their laws and regulations to succumb abusive drivers, as they are widely available these days. With the opening of the Driver’s Academy, you can be sure that you are in safe hands whenever you ride a public utility vehicle.
Nonetheless, the LTFRB were also hoping to decrease the number of road accidents caused by the lack of road knowledge.
