Philippine Consulate in Hong Kong is alarmed after receiving reports of job scam for the past several weeks. Apparently, four Filipino domestic helpers claimed their hard-earned money had been scammed totalling between HK$28,000 to HK$40,000 eqivalent to P 181,000 to P260,000.
According to Labor Attache Jalilo dela Torre, a negotiator in Hong Kong was able to scam four domestic helpers. The negotiator claimed that his company can help arrange jobs such as doctors, cleaners or dentists in other countries where they will get paid with double the amount of the salary which they were receiving in Hong Kong.
The four domestic helpers who were in their 30s, paid the negotiator prior to the end of their respective contracts. The two of them went to China, one to Brazil and the other one to Kazakhstan.

The Philippine Consulate expressed being alarmed with the scam as this wasn’t the first time they’ve heard of the same. Previous reports of the same incident were received from OFWs in Malaysia and Dubai.
Meanwhile, 4 more negotiators were found using the same “modus operandi” after their Facebook account had been investigated. They were claiming they could arrange work in Russia and Canada.
It is then that OFWs are reminded to be more cautious in transacting with people especially when their hard-earned money is at stake.
