A Filipino domestic helper in Brunei received his verdict on April 16 after stealing from his employer. He is sentenced to 12 months jail term.
The defendant was identified as Kevin Salinguhay, 29-years-old, who works as a driver for the Kampong Beribi residence. According to reports, he was taking care of his elderly employer when he found a Diamond Gold Roles placed on a table sometime in February last year. During that time, he tried to steal the watch but couldn’t do so due to some circumstances.
However, after two nights, the Filipino went back into his employer’s bedroom and stole the precious watch. He allowed his friend to sell it and he managed to secure B$300 (PhP11,925). He gave B$100 to his friend and kept the B$200 to himself that he sent home for his family in the Philippines.
A family member realized that the watch went missing, prompting them to look for it in the defendant’s room. Inside, they discovered suspicious items.
Upon questioning, the defendant admitted to his crimes and the family member lodged a report against him as he was unable to return the stolen watch.
Filipinos workers all over the world strive hard to support their families in the Philippines. It’s just sad to think that they end up stealing someone else’s belongings just to send money to the Philippines.
