The Sahar airport received an anonymous call reporting a bomb on a plane last Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018. The flight of many passengers was delayed for 5 hours.
However, it turns out that the call was only a prank and it was traced to a certain Wasim Qureshi. He did it to stop his Filipino wife from leaving him and flying back to the Philippines. The two got involved in a bitter confrontation.
According to the authorities, Qureshi made two calls. The first one was directed to the air intelligence unit of the airport customs department at 8:30 in the evening.
“In the first call, the person told a customs official that a flyer who was scheduled to fly by Singapore Airlines was carrying 500 grams of undeclared gold. But his plan did not help in stopping the flight,” says the officer.
The second call was directed to the airport call center at 9:30 in the evening stating that a bomb is planted on the plane.
“Qureshi made another call to the airport call center to say that a bomb had been planted on the flight. This worked out and hundreds of flyers were frisked and their baggage on board scanned. This delayed the flight by at least five hours,” the officer added.
Finally, the flight took off the early morning of Sunday, around 5:30 in the morning.
On the interrogation of Wasim Qureshi, 30, from Goregaon, he said that he lived with his wife in Goregaon for a couple of months.
The two met in Dubai, two years ago where he was a waiter in a hotel.
However, he became jobless and the couple fought often, prompting the wife to leave her husband.
“He desperately wanted to stop her,” says the officer.
