One thousand pesos each family in Barangay 42 Apaya, Laoag City was given by Overseas Filipino Workers from Amerika, Saudi Arabia, and Spain.
The money was supposed to be for their family members in Laoag. However, they decided to share the money with their neighbors in Barangay 42 Apaya. In total, 58 families received money.
The family who gave the money wants to share their blessings to their ‘kabarangay’ amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
As Luzon undergoes a lockdown, there are a lot of Filipinos who lost their jobs and other sources of income. This has led to hunger among their families. There are also areas in Visayas and Mindanao who had implemented lockdowns and community quarantines. Malls and other establishments were also forcedly closed. Because of these, a lot of Filipinos do not have income.
Though each barangays are given food and cash assistance from the government, there are still a lot of Filipino suffering from hunger as the assistance is said to be inefficient for their needs.
Meanwhile, House Leader Joey Salceda pushed for another 2-week extension of the enhanced quarantine in Luzon.
“We’re simply not there yet no matter how much we wish this pandemic to end,” says Salceda.
