The passing of Filipina domestic helper Gretchen Nebreja will be investigated by the Hong Kong police as the Philippine Consulate will ask them to step up. The Filipina was confined in TuenMun hospital for three days and passed away on April 24.
According to a Facebook post, Nebreja was maltreated by her employer that resulted in her passing, contrary to the claims of Hong Kong doctors that her cause of expiration is a heart attack.
The 34-year-old Filipina from Brgy. Beberon, San Fernando, Camarines Sur went to Hong Kong five months ago. Her employer’s residence is at Aqua Blue, Siu Lam, TuenMun, New Territories. She is single and previously worked in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.
“The Consulate has been talking to the family and the agencies both here and in Manila. We’ll have a meeting on this and request for an investigation by the HK authorities,” according to Consul General Raly Tejada. It was the head of the Consulate’s assistance to nationals section Consul Paulo Saret who was there in the hospital when the Filipina passed away.
In the original Facebook post, it is said that Nebreja was taken to the hospital because she was badly treated by her employer. But Bebs Leonardo, the friend of Nebreja who accompanied her to the hospital said that the deceased Filipina was taken to the hospital after she collapsed in the bathroom. Her skin already turned purple which indicates that she lacks oxygen when she was found.
However, Nebreja allegedly had problems with her employer before the incident.
