An Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) who wanted to return to his family in Catanduanes faked his quarantine certificate.
News regarding OFWs being stranded in Metro Manila for more than 14 days because of delayed COVID-19 test results and quarantine certificates has been circulating online. However, President Duterte addressed the issue and mandated for the immediate release of the COVID-19 test results so OFWs can return to their provinces and be with their families.
But it seems like one OFW couldn’t wait much longer and just decided to fake his quarantine certificate so he can return to his province.
The Provincial Health Office (PHO) in Catanduanesannounced that the province confirmed its second positive case. He is a 49-year-old OFW who presented a fake quarantine certificate so he can return to his province much easier.
According to the press release from the Catanduanes PHO, the OFW arrived in the Philippines on May 23 and in the province of Catanduanes on June 8.
However, according to the validation released by the Bureau of Quarantine, the OFW tested positive of COVID-19 after the test conducted last June 1, and the results were released on June 4.
Currently, the patient is admitted to the quarantine facility situated at San Miguel local government unit.
The OFW will possibly face civil and criminal charges for the fake public documents that he created.
It remains unclear how the patient managed to ride the bus going to his province despite his name not included in the passenger’s list.
