Active members of the Social Security System (SSS) will get a cash benefit worth P20,000. This is only applicable to members who lost their jobs.
According to Fernando Nicolas, SSS Public Affairs and Special Events Division head, qualified members will only have to secure a certification from the Department of Labor and Employment as well as their savings account.
“Up to 20,000 o katumbaspoito ng one month salary credit. Halimbawa, angisangmiyembro ay naghuhulog ng para sa P20,000 monthly salary credit, makakakuhaposiya ng ganunghalaga,” says Nicolas.
The certification from DOLE is also necessary to claim the benefits.
“Ang kailangan lang nilang i-present ay ‘yung certification galing sa DOLE nasila ay involuntarily separated. Tapos i-present nila ‘yung savings account kung saan natin ide-deposit,” says Nicolas.
After the filing of the claims, it will be received by the SSS member after five days. The total amount will be given in two halves for two months. This unemployment benefit will be given even if the member already received other cash assistance from the government.
“Ito pong benepisyo na ito ay galingsa SSS,” adding that even workers who ended up losing their work unrelated to the COVID-19 can still claim the P20,000 assistance.
Additionally, Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) can also claim for this aid. They just need to secure a certification from the Philippine Overseas Employment Office (POLO), instead of from the Labor Department in the Philippines. But then, self-employed SSS members cannot avail of this cash aid, Nicholas added.
