A Filipina domestic helper in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia is asking for help after she was forced to sleep outside the house her employer.
According to GMA News, KAIE PAGCALIWANGAN slept in a carpet that served as an underlayer of the sand outside her employer’s home. She spent the night outside together with her co-workers from different nationalities.
They were also starving because they are just waiting for their employer to provide the food.
The Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Riyadh are already coordinating with Pagcaliwangan to provide immediate help.
Also in Saudi Arabia, some OFWs were captured looking for food from the trash after they lost their jobs and their employer refused to provide them financial aid.
According to them, their salary was also not given prompting them to look for an alternative to survive with their daily needs. Some grocery stores voluntarily gave them food to eat.
They are appealing for help from the government for their immediate repatriation.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, more and more Filipino migrants are losing their jobs and opting to return to the Philippines than starving in another country. It is expected that this number will grow as the pandemic worsens.
