A program to address the concern of every Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) is the latest agenda on the meeting participated by House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and other related agencies.
During the said meeting, Cayetano mentioned to the heads of these departments the advantages of the so-called inter-agency consultation to give solutions to the issues faced by OFWs wanting to return home.
DFA Undersecretary Sarah Lou Arriola praised the move of Cayetano as well as the House panel for the effort to organize a meeting regarding the said agenda.
Cayetano said that there are a lot of concerns faced by Filipinos abroad, who were either victim of COVID-19 or those who lost their jobs due to the pandemic. He added that the concerned government must add an “integrated and comprehensive plan” for Overseas workers.
The House speaker also pointed out the issues of OFWs wherein they are passed from one agency to another for funding, documentation, training, and other educational needs.
“It requires full coordination and adoption of a whole-of-government approach,” says Cayetano pertaining to the cooperation and integration of different government agencies.
The House Committees on Labor and Overseas Workers Affairs chairman will also be included in the meeting, says Cayetano.
