Immigrants from different countries experience racism now and then. Good thing there are still a lot of countries that are strict in implementing certain laws to protect the rights of every immigrant.
In Edmonton, Canada, an assault charge was given to a man after throwing racist attacks to Filipino Canadians living in an apartment complex on the west side of Edmonton.
On July 6, a video of a man saying racist comments to a woman, who appeared to be a Filipina circulated online. It is said that the root of the man’s anger was when the Filipina refused to give her phone number.
According to the person involved identified as Patricia Anne Medrano, she refused to give her number, resulting in the man bursting in anger.
“I just told my brothers to ignore him. We’re supposed to go downstairs already but he is really being disrespectful and saying racial slurs like ‘Go back to your country!’, ‘This is Canada, not Wuhan. You spread the virus,” says Patricia in a Facebook post.
Eventually, the situation escalated and the Edmonton man started to kick the door of their apartment. He even tried to attack Patricia.
“I’ll kill you. I’ll f****ing decapitate you.” “Filipino little b****.” “Get the f*** out of Canada,” says the Edmonton man. In the video, the attacker can also be seen using a Nazi salute.
The Canada police identified the man as Rylee Dodd, 28 years old.
“The suspect in the video, 28-year-old Rylee Dodd, has been charged with uttering threats and assault in relation to this incident,” says a spokesperson from the EPS. “Our Hate Crime & Violent Extremism Unit is also aware and are looking into this from their perspective.”
