A legislator in Hong Kong suggested that domestic helpers should not be allowed to go out even on their day-off to avoid getting infected with COVID-19.
According to GMA News, it is expected that 200,000 Filipino domestic helpers will be affected once this proposal gets a nod.
The legislator explained that almost 500 domestic helpers are already infected with COVID-19, therefore, it is much better for them not to leave their employer’s house during their day-off.
But the Labor Department in Hong Kong aired their objection regarding the recommendation of the legislator. According to them, it is illegal to remove the one day rest of domestic workers.
Instead, the Labor Department insisted that the designated government agencies should instead check the house of employers since there are other who are still conducting parties despite the strict regulation of the government when it comes to gatherings.
Meanwhile, since there are already cases of the new UK COVID-19 variant in Hong Kong, it is best to avoid going in groups and follow the safety protocols advised by the government.. The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Hong Kong continues to rise despite the effort of the government to stop the curb.
