A Filipina maid in Dubai was caught by her employer stealing her valuables. How did she manage to verify it? Through social media!
In Dubai, a Filipina was jailed after she was caught posting stolen pieces of jewelry on Facebook. The said pieces of jewelry were owned by her employer.
The 47-year-old Filipina allegedly stole several pieces of jewelry including a gold necklace, five rings, bracelets, and four earrings from her employer from 2016 and 2018, said the Dubai Court of First Instance. The incident took place inside her employer’s home in Al Jumeira area in Dubai. The luxury items were from famous brands like Tiffany, Van Cleef, Damas, and Fendi.
According to the employer of the Filipina, who hails from Canada, the Filipina maid worked for her since 2013.
“During her employment, my daughters would wear pieces of my jewellery and then tell me that they couldn’t find them at home. The maid denied knowing anything about it,” says the 49-year-old employer.
The Filipina was removed from her job in 2018 but the theft was only discovered in 2021 after she posted images of the stolen items on her Facebook account.
“In April 2021, I saw pictures of the maid on Facebook in which she was wearing some of my missing jewellery. I knew she was the one who had stolen them,” says the employer. In one of the images posted on Facebook, there was a piece of necklace with the name of the employer’s child.
After seeing the stolen items, they alerted the Dubai Police and the arrest was made. The prosecution charged the Filipina with theft, but she denied the allegations.
