A Filipino cancer survivor in Hong Kong has been charged with theft after she was caught stealing at a fashion shop last June 8.
Iniego, 55 years old Filipino domestic helper worked the same job in Hong Kong for 34 years. She admitted to stealing a pair of sandals, T-shirts, and six-packs of wet wipes inside the H&M store in Hang Lung Centre.
Iniego was intercepted by the store guard when upon noticing that the Filipino left the store without paying for the items that she placed inside a recyclable bag.
According to the prosecution, the OFW arrived in the store around 5:37 pm last May 25. She stole the merchandise and left the store at 6:15 pm without paying for it. The bag where she placed the stolen items was inspected by the guard.
HK police were called and the OFW was arrested. She admitted to her crime and confessed that she did it out of greed.
The defense lawyer said in the mitigation that his client has no previous criminal records in the country. She was also a cancer survivor who undergone a chemotherapy session at the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital.
The defense lawyer pleaded for leniency after his client admitted to her crimes. The Filipina is also afraid that her employer will know about the incident and remove her from her job.
Eastern Magistrate Peter Law demanded the woman to pay a fine worth $1,200.
