The kindness of this Filipina nurse in America was reciprocated with brutality when she was assaulted while she was distributing face masks to commuters in a subway.
Potri Ranka Manis endured bruises all over her body and face after a couple refused to accept the face masks that she handed to them. Aside from the assault, the couple also insulted her and shouted “Go back to China”. Her mobile phone was also allegedly taken by the couple.
Currently, the New York police are already looking for assailants.
This is not the first time that an Asian national suffered from abuse and assaults in America. There are quite a number of times that Asians are being insulted especially amidst the pandemic.
Recently, U.S President Joe Biden invited some UN experts to help address racism in the United States and the injustice that’s being experienced by some foreign nationals.
“I urge all UN member states to join the United States in this effort and confront the scourge of racism, racial discrimination, and xenophobia. Because when all people – regardless of their race or ethnicity – are free to live up to their full potential, our collective security is strengthened,” says the Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
One of the key parts of President Biden in his 2020 campaign is fighting against racial injustice.
