2 Overseas Filipino Workers became instant millionaires after winning in a raffle draw in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Participants are only required to purchase a bottled water worth AED35 to participate in the raffle draw. Fortunately, two Filipino were able to win AED142,857 or PhP1.97 million each.
One participant identified only as Jovan confessed that he will use the money he won to build his own house in the Philippines. He is also planning to send her mother back home for good.
“Yan ang plano ko talaga,” says the 32-year-old logistics coordinator working at a medical supplies company. “Makakapag-for good na rin si mama.” According to Jovan, his mother has been working in Dubai for 22 long years but finally, after winning from the raffle draw, she can finally go home to the Philippines for good. His mother went to work in Dubai when he was only 6-years-old.
“Building my own home in my country is almost impossible with my current salary. Thanks to this prize money, my mother and I can have our own home soon,” says Jovan.
Jovan arrived in Dubai last February 2013 and worked as a receiving clerk at a grocery store. And after two years, he transferred to another company where he worked as a procurement officer. Although he lost that job because of the pandemic, he was lucky enough to land another job this year.
According to him, he always tries his luck by participating in raffle draws. Fortunately, he was able to win recently which will help him build his dream house.
Meanwhile, the other winner identified only as Jep promised to share his prize with his friend who also gave a number combination.
“May usapan po kami. Dalawa kaming tumaya, kung sino ang manalo, ihahati yung premyo sa natalo.”
Jep is a technician in Dubai for seven years and he plans to buy a second-hand car that he can use for his work.
