We’ve all heard of stories of abuse and maltreatment experienced by Overseas Filipino Workers, particularly in the domestic sector. But these horror stories are worth abandoning once you hear the success stories of OFWs who were lucky enough to get employed by kind-hearted employers who have helped them achieve their dreams.
In a “Bawal Judgemental” segment of Eat Bulaga, a Filipina nanny in Switzerland shared the good deeds of her French employer. According to the OFW, her employer helped in sending her child to school, get her own car and even start a business and acquire a resident visa in Switzerland.
According to Cherrie Salamanca, she was an Overseas Filipino Worker in Dubai for 11 years and it’s been 8 years since she started working for her French employer.
Before officially settling in Switzerland, her employer would always take her to Switzerland for a holiday vacation. Until they finally settled in Switzerland and took Cherrie with them, where she also got a residence visa.
“Isa ‘yon sa mga reason kung bakit napakasuwerte ko sa amo ko. Sila lahat ang nag-process ng documents, papers, expenses, para lumipat dito sa Switzerland. Alam naman natin na hindi madali dito sa Switzerland pumunta, at hindi mura para pumunta dito. So, lahat ‘yon, expenses paid ng amo ko,” Cherrie said.
Cherrie waited in Dubai for one year for the release of her residence visa and her employer went to Switzerland first to process her documents.
“Nasa Dubai lang ako, naghihintay. Wala kaming amo that time. Sila kasi, nandidito (Switzerland) na… Nasa hotel apartment lang. Actually, gym, kain,” says Cherrie.
According to the OFW, her employer has a financial company.
“Nalaman ko na sila yung klase ng tao na nag-a-appreciate ng mga empleyado. Alam nila kung ano ‘yung worth mo. Tumaas ang inspiring feeling mo. Nalalaman mo na importante ka sa kanila, kasi pamilya talaga ang turing nila sa akin,” says Cherrie.
Being the ideal employer of everyone, Cherrie’s employer even helped her child study in Dubai. Cherrie said that she also acquired her own can, a small agricultural land, and two small apartments.
In the midst of the interview, Cherrie was surprised by her employer, Chloe Alzarka.
“She is very loyal to our family. She is very honest, I can trust her with my children. She is very organized, super organized,” says Chloe. “If one of my kids is sick, she will be here for him. She’s very, very loyal. She has a big, big heart.”
