In this time of the pandemic, it is really hard to earn money. And if that money gets lost, that’s too devastating to think. But what will you do if you found some money randomly? Are you going to keep it or consider finding the owner and hand it back?
Even though it is tough to earn money and finding some is considered a blessing, there are still people who choose to hand over the money which is not theirs. Just like this Overseas Filipino Worker in Hong Kong who is looking for the owner of a thousand dollar bill that she found on one of the benches at the MTR station.
34-year-old Herminihilda B. Molina asked a local news outlet to help her look for the owner of the money that she recently found. According to her, the bills are folded together and compiled on one of the benches in an MTR station.
Molina was waiting for her flu vaccine shot in a clinic when she found the bills. There also found a $20 note near the money which she assumed belongs to the same person who dropped the money. One of the people nearby confirmed that a man previously sat down on the same bench.
After some time and no one in the vicinity went looking for the missing money, she turned over the whole amount to the staff of the MTR station. She got her name and contact number in case the owner turned up.
“Baka po makatulong ang page ninyo para ma-claim na po ng may-ari ang perang napulot ko,” says Molina. “Thanks and God bless.”
When asked if she ever thought of keeping the money, she said: “Hindi ko po talaga inisip na itago kasi alam ko po ang pakiramdam ng mawalan. Dati po kasi, nanakaw ang bag ng nanay ko nong 2015, laman ang pera at passbook nya. Halos nabaliw siya kasi malaki-laking pera po ang nasa bag niya. At isa pa, hindi po (ito) galing sa sarili kong pawis. Ayaw ko po ipakain sa pamilya ko ang hindi ko pinagpaguran.”
Theft in Hong Kong is punishable by a maximum of 10 years in prison.
