It is very important to respect the rules and regular of the country where you are staying. They may have different customs and traditions from the ones observed in your country of origin, but it is your duty to follow them or risk being deported or sent to prison.
However, it seems like this Overseas Filipino Worker known only as Ana suffered the consequence of her actions after her employer sent her to prison after seeing nude photos on her mobile phone.
According to the sister-in-law of the OFW, Ana was sent to prison because her employer found her nude selfies on her phone. They only found out about the incident when the father of Ana got worried because the OFW was not able to communicate with them for some time.
“Simula nuong hindi na siya nag-online, nag-message ako sa kanyang boss na lalaki sa Whatsapp. Tinanong ko po siya [ang amo] kung ano na ang nangyari kay Ana at hindi na ito nagkapag-online. Sagot po ng amo na ‘nahuli si Ana na nag-selfie sa kwarto na naka hubad’” says the sister-in-law.
When asked about the situation of the OFW, the employer said that Ana was taken to the police station because of the nude photos that she had on her phone.
“Huli po siyang nag-online Sabado last week, bale pito o walong araw na po sa ngayon na hindi na siya nag-online. Ibig sabihin simula nung hini na sya nag-online, yun po siguro yung unang araw na dinala sya sa pulis,” says the sister-in-law.
It was also found out that the four months salary Ana is yet to be paid to her and the employment contract with her employer already expired.
Meanwhile, the husband of Ana couldn’t believe the accusation thrown at his wife. He is pleading for help for her wife to be released from prison.
“Sir, sa totoo lang, hindi po magagawa yan ng asawa ko na maghubo’t hubad, siguro sir sexy short siguro po,” says the husband of the OFW.
The Philippine Labor Office (POLO) in Jeddah Labor Attache Roel Martin promised that they will help the OFW.
“Kami ay nalulungkot na may mga ganitong kwento pero bilang labor attache sa POLO Jeddah ay asahan ng ating OFW pati ang kanilang kamag-anak na tutulong tayo… we will also refer this to the Philippine Consulate para makita, ma-assess, ma-evaluate kung anong tulong at ipapatawag din natin ang kanyang agancy para naman sama-sama tayong tulungan ang OFW,” says Martin.
The Labor Attache also reminded OFWs to always think twice of the things that they will do especially if it is against the culture and traditions of the country that they are living in.
