Although an Overseas Filipino Worker managed to return to the Philippines, she was not able to see her family because she passed away in a hotel room while quarantining in Cebu City.
According to GMA News, the OFW was identified as Mercidita Torbeso and worked as a teacher in Cambodia. Torbeso returned to the Philippines last September 1 and tested negative for COVID-19. In line with the health protocols, she was taken to a quarantine facility.
But according to the child of Torbeso, his mother is asthmatic. For this reason, they want Torbeso to be taken to the hospital instead of the hotel to undergo her quarantine.
Ken thinks that there are lapses on the side of the quarantine facility and they failed to notice the condition of the OFW despite knowing that she had asthma.
It is said that because the OFW failed to eat the food which was given to her that the staff of the hotel decided to enter her room. It was then that they found out about her demise.
Ken also added that only OWWA were the ones who reached out to them and no medical personnel gave an explanation as to what happened to his mother.
Furthermore, Ken clarified that his mother didn’t pass away because of COVID-19, as indicated in her death certificate. OWWA failed to release a statement regarding the incident involving an OFW.
