Post-partum depression is a serious condition that is mostly neglected. However, to this Filipino mother in Hong Kong, she did something unimaginable, quickly sending her to prison.
A Filipino in Hong Kong was charged with infanticide after she allegedly left her month-old baby in a rubbish bin to die.
The accused was identified only as M.A. Atienza. She was arrested following the discovery of the baby’s deceased body at the refuse room of the StarCrest Tower 2 at 9 Star Street at Wanchai last December 14.
The 31-year-old woman appeared in the court in a wheelchair. The prosecution claimed that the Filipina placed her own child inside a plastic bag and dumped the poor baby inside the rubbish bin. Because of that, the baby suffocated and passed away.
But it was also said that during the time of the incident, the new mother was not in her right mind and suffers from post-partum depression.
“But at the time of the act, the balance of your mind was disturbed by reason of your not having fully recovered from the effect of giving birth to such child,” says the charge.
To have an additional investigation, the prosecution asked for an eight-week adjournment of the case but they opposed allowing bail for the defendant. The case was adjourned until February 15, 2022.
