A Filipino Domestic Worker in Hong Kong is set to face murder charges after he allegedly mauled his girlfriend which eventually resulted in her untimely death.
After sustaining head injuries, a Filipina succumbed to her death this month. Charges were filed against the boyfriend of the Filipina for mauling the victim but it will soon be upgraded to murder or manslaughter after the victim passed away.
Originally, Bernie Macatangay Valencia, 42 years old, was charged with wounding with intent his girlfriend but Magistrate Ada Yim said that these charges will soon escalate following the passing of the Filipina victim.
“It is possible that the charge may be amended to murder or manslaughter,” Magistrate Yim said. Furthermore, the magistrate said that she will continue to oppose any form of bail application filed by Valencia because of the “serious offense committed.” But, according to the lawyer of Valencia, they will not be posting any bail application any time soon. Yim asked Valencia to appear in court on Feb. 7.
According to court records, the victim Ivy Quialang, 36 years old, passed away at the hospital around 7:50 am last January 2, 2022.
Valencia was arrested on December 23 when he took his unconscious girlfriend to Ruttonjee Hospital following a fight that took place at their boarding house in Wanchai, Stone Nullah Lane. It is said that Valencia hit Quialang causing her to suffer a brain hemorrhage.
Later, Quialang was transferred to the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital and was operated but never once gained consciousness.
Quialang is a single mother to two children. She worked for one employer for the past eight years.
