A Filipina who was merely crossing the street was struck by a car at Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah.
According to reports, the woman was crossing the pedestrian lane when she was hit by the vehicle. She eventually fell into a coma afterward.
She was struck by a minibus just near Shoreline 12. The incident took place around 9 in the morning.
Initially, it was reported that the Filipina passed away due to the severity of her injuries. However, Mediclinic Parkview Hospital confirmed that the woman is still alive but suffering from a ‘catastrophic brain injury. She is currently admitted to the intensive care unit of the hospital because she is in coma.
“Pedestrians need to feel safe they can cross the road safely with their children and the best way for that would be an overhead pedestrian walkway,” says a resident at Palm Jumeirah, Julie Buck.
According to the hospital director at Parkview, the Filipina suffered from multiple traumatic injuries as well as an injury to her brain.
“She was immediately resuscitated by our trauma team, had emergency surgery, and is currently being cared for in our ICU,” says David Jelley, hospital director.
The police investigation is still undergoing, therefore, information regarding the name of the driver of the vehicle was not released to the public.
According to eyewitnesses, when the incident happened, the woman who works as a domestic worker was lying at the pedestrian crossing which was also controlled by the traffic lights.
According to the British resident who was at the scene said that a minibus struck the woman. The vehicle is used to transport construction workers.
“My wife came running into the apartment and said there had been an accident,” says the British resident. “The dog was lifeless in the road and the woman was around 30 meters further away.”
