An Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) in Hong Kong was punched by her own boyfriend resulting to her confinement at the ICU and eventually leading to her death.
According to reports from the Hong Kong police, on December 22, a 42-year-old man punched a Filipina while they were inside a boarding house in Nullah Lane, Wan Chai, Hong Kong. Eventually, the woman fell unconscious and paramedics are called to the scene. The Filipina was brought to the nearest Ruttonjee Hospital but she was soon transferred to the Pamela Yeude Hospital.
During the police investigation, it was found out that the couple had a dispute and it resulted in a physical altercation. Upon hearing the commotion, their neighbor called the police and reported the incident. The boyfriend of the woman who turns out to be a Filipino also was arrested. They both work as domestic workers.
The case was tackled at the Eastern Magistracy court and the assailant was charged with wounding a person. However, when the Filipina passed away, he was immediately charged with manslaughter.
The OFW was identified as Ivy Quialang, 37 years old. She was from Isabela province and had two daughters ages 15 and 11. Ivy went to Hong Kong to find a greener pasture for her family. She left her children to her eldest sister so she can provide for their shelter, food, and education.
According to Analyn, the sister of Ivy, the OFW was ‘very kind’. She always thinks about the welfare of her family and children more than herself. She aims to provide everything for her parents and daughters who solely relies on her.
Just two days before New Year’s Eve, the family of Ivy was informed of her condition. They were shocked and cried so much. On January 2, devastating news reached her family. Ivy passed away.
She was diagnosed to have suffered from a brain hemorrhage. The brain of Ivy was severely damaged.
