Amidst the Russia-Ukraine conflict, innocent people are getting involved and started to leave Ukraine because of the intense fighting that’s happening there.
The Filipina Jane Conova together with her family in Ukraine is starting to worry about the situation. They are preparing to leave Kyiv, which is the capital of Ukraine and where the war between Ukrainian forces and the Russian troops is happening.
“Ito na ang itsura ngayon dito sa lugar namin. Sabi ng asawa ko sa labas, marami na ang ngfi-fill ng gasolina. So maya-maya, alis na din kami palabas ng Kyiv, papunta ng Lviv area,” says Conova.
They were also recommended to leave the area as soon as possible for their safety.
According to the statistics of the Department of Foreign Affairs, there are currently 181 Filipinos in Ukraine and most of them are living in Kyiv.
On February 26, there are 40 Filipinos were evacuated from the capital of Ukraine. These Filipinos were brought to another city in Ukraine, the city of Lviv.
Currently, there is no Philippine Embassy in Ukraine since there are only 181 Filipinos in the country. Despite the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, Filipinos are still choosing to stay because of their need to provide for their family in the Philippines.
