A Filipina domestic worker in Hong Kong admitted theft with her employer that whom she had been working for the past 8 years.
Richiebelle Aballe worked as a domestic helper to a 91-year-old employer who has health and mobility issues. They were together for the past 8 years and she calls her ‘Yeye’.
However, in December, Aballe admitted to stealing $114,110 from the Visa card of her employer for the past 32 months. She also pawned the Tudor wristwatch of her employer for $700.
Hearing about the case, friends of Aballe were quite shocked as they usually spend their days off at the house of Aballe’s employer for the past 3 years. According to her friends, Aballe treated her employer like her own grandfather and rarely leaves her employer’s house except during instances when the employer had to go for his regular checkup or when he goes to his sons.
However, it turns out that Aballe had a financial crisis and started stealing money from her employer. The OFW had a teenage daughter in the Philippines that she is supporting being a single parent.
Her salary was not enough to cover the expenses of her daughter and this prompted her to do drastic moves of borrowing from financing companies. But she was unable to pay what she borrowed, so Aballe started to steal money from her employer.
Aballe will be spending 9 months in jail for theft charges.
